Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance

Murphy Law Firm is investigating claims on behalf of all individuals whose personal and confidential information was potentially compromised in the data breach at Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance (“CBHA”). CBHA is the administrator of behavioral health benefits for certain providers, including Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Wake Forest University. On March 20, 2022, CBHA learned that one or more hackers targeted the company through a ransomware attack. Through a forensic investigation, CBHA determined that cybercriminals had gained unauthorized access to files containing confidential patient information. Based on the investigation, CBHA confirmed that cybercriminals may have accessed the personal information of 130,922 patients. According to CBHA, the patient information potentially acquired by cybercriminals includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Address
  • Health plan information
  • Gender

As a result of the CBHA’s data breach, these individuals’ personal and highly sensitive information may be in the hands of cybercriminals who can place the information for sale on the dark web or use the information to perpetrate identity fraud.

Murphy Law Firm is evaluating legal options, including a potential class action lawsuit, to recover damages for individuals who were affected by the data breach.
