In July 2022, Nelnet, a student loan servicing company, became aware of a likely data breach involving its network. Based on a forensic investigation, Nelnet confirmed that cybercriminals had infiltrated its systems and gained unauthorized access to files containing the personal and confidential information of 2,501,324 individuals.
